Renault Kiger Inches Towards Launch, Series Production Commence

• Kiger production begins at Renault-Nissan plant in Chennai.

Series production of the Kiger, Renault’s debut sub-4 metre SUV, have begun at its plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Some dealers across India have started receiving the SUV as dispatches have commenced. While bookings are yet to commence, select dealers have begun unofficial reservations for a refundable token amount.  

The model seen in these images is the top-spec RXZ variant. It’ll be offered in six colours: blue, brown, silver, white, red, and grey. Dual-tone colours, which could be offered in all variants, get a black-coloured roof. The Kiger is underpinned by Renault-Nissan’s CMF-A+ platform, that holds up the Magnite and Triber. 

While the exterior bears resemblance to a Kwid, the Kiger’s main strength is its spacious interior. It’s capable of seating five occupants in decent comfort and can carry all their luggage as well thanks to the large 405-litre boot space.  

It comes with essential features such as a 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, climate control, a 7-inch digital instrument display, steering-mounted audio controls, drive modes and keyless entry with push-button start. Cruise control and sunroof aren’t part of the package but a wireless phone charger and a PM 2.5 AC filter are offered as optional accessories. 

Safety is taken care of by four airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a camera, and electronic stability control.  

It will be powered by two 1.0-litre petrol engines. Both engines can be had with manual and automatic transmissions. Here are the detailed specifications:

The Kiger will be launched in March, with prices likely to start at around Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom). It is expected to undercut all its rivals except for the Nissan Magnite. The Kiger will fight it out with established models such as the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
